Shutdown Risk Triggers

Manufactured spending, high cumulative credit limit across Synchrony accounts, unusual spending patterns (especially for co-branded cards used heavily outside the brand's ecosystem), multiple recent applications, late payments or defaults on any Synchrony account, inactivity on the card for extended periods.

Cliff Effect Rules

Synchrony does not have specific 'card family' bonus restrictions like some other issuers. However, they rigorously manage overall credit exposure. Approvals for new cards or credit limit increases may be denied if the cumulative credit limit across all Synchrony accounts is deemed too high relative to income and credit profile, potentially leading to a 'cliff effect' where further credit is unavailable despite good individual card standing.
